Profile & career

Diego Schwartzman, now retired, is the best Argentine player of his generation behind Juan Martin Del Potro. Small in stature for a sport like tennis (1m70) , he was a great clay-court specialist, a semi-finalist at Roland-Garros 2020 and a pillar of the early years of the UTS Tour, in which he played notably in 2021 on the Mouratoglou Academy courts, then in 2023.

Schwartzmann enjoyed the best moments of his career in the second half of the 2010s and at the start of the following decade. In 2020, he also reached his only Masters 1000 final in Rome, beaten by Novak Djokovic after eliminating Rafael Nadal.

It was at the end of this run, which took place in the autumn of 2020 because of COVID-19, that the Argentine reached his highest ranking, an eighth-place finish that earned him a place in the ATP Finals.

ATP career: world No. 8 in 2020 then retirement in 2025

Diego Schwartzman began his career in 2010. The turning point came in 2016 in Istanbul, when he won his first ATP title. A good performer on clay, he also achieved some good results on hard courts. He reached world No. 8 in October 2020 after his first Grand Slam semi-final at Roland Garros. He decided to put away his rackets for good at home, in Buenos Aires, at the beginning of 2025. Schwartzman is 32 years old.

HIS GAME

With his short stature, Schwartzman had to contend with an enormous weakness on his serve. But thanks to his consistency and explosive running, he had few equals when it came to forcing his opponent to play the extra shot. An exceptional return man in his prime, he made 15% fewer mistakes than his opponents on the forehand and 30% fewer on the backhand during rallies, making him capable of taking sets from Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros.

Personal Life
& Interests

Diego Schwartzman is fairly discreet about his private life, but he has nevertheless been engaged to Eugenia De Martino since 2024, with whom he regularly shows off his lifestyle on social networks.
A big fan of football, which by his own admission is his number one sport, he was photographed with Lionel Messi at the Washington tournament in 2023. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner joined Inter Miami after two seasons with PSG, and Schwartzman didn’t miss the opportunity to take a selfie with the idol of an entire country. He experienced the 2022 World Cup final in the streets of Buenos Aires with all the Argentine people.
