Profile & career

At the end of 2024, Alexander Zverev was one of the best tennis players in the world, probably the best to have played the sport and never won a Grand Slam tournament. To date, he had won 23 titles, including seven Masters 1000, two ATP Finals and an Olympic gold medal. An outstanding member of the Next Gen generation, a two-time Grand Slam finalist and world No. 2, he was one of the players who caused the most suffering for the members of the Djokovic/Nadal/Federer Big Three at the end of their reign.

Zverev was born to be a tennis player. As a child, he accompanied his older brother Mischa around the circuit, as well as his father Alexander Sr, both former professional tennis players who then went on to help the ‘little one’ reach the highest level. Sascha Zverev wasted no time in doing so. Brilliant and versatile, the German of Russian origins has not missed a step, from the juniors where he was world No. 1 in his category, to the ATP circuit where he very quickly established himself among the very best tennis players, breaking into the top 100 at the age of 17.

A resident of Monaco, Alexander Zverev is a regular at the Mouratoglou Academy, where he trains regularly and where he won the second UTS in August 2020.

ZVEREV'S TRACK RECORD

Junior career: World champion, Grand Slam winner

Alexander Zverev has been a great hope since he first stepped on the court, and was a semi-finalist in the 2011 edition of the Petits As, which was packed with players including Andrey Rublev, Frances Tiafoe, Hubert Hurkacz and Alexander Bublik. He was then crowned world junior champion in 2013, at the age of 16, having reached the final of the French Open that year (beaten by Christian Garin) and the semi-finals of the US Open (Borna Coric). He left the juniors with a Grand Slam title, the 2014 Australian Open, which he won by beating Stefan Kozlov. It is one of six ITF titles he has won in this category.

ATP career: precocity, versatility and perseverance

As always, Alexander Zverev hasn’t waited years to prove his worth. After playing his first ATP tournaments in 2011 at the age of 14, he won his first Challenger in 2014 at the age of 17, at home in Brauschweig, just before blossoming for good by reaching the semi-finals of the Hamburg 500. This enabled him to establish himself in the top 100 and to be voted Revelation of the Year by the ATP. The luxury German saloon car was now on the road to success…

ATP honours list: 23 titles, including 7 Masters 1000, 2 ATP Finals and Olympic gold

By the end of 2024, Alexander Zverev had won 23 titles, the first of which came at the age of 18 in St Petersburg in 2016. His formidable record includes seven Masters 1000 titles (Rome 2017 and 2024, Montreal 2017, Madrid 2018 and 2021, Cincinnati 2021, Paris Masters 2024), two ATP Finals (2018 in London and 2021 in Turin), as well as the Olympic gold medal he won in Tokyo in 2021. He is the man who extinguished Novak Djokovic’s hopes of a Golden Slam after he was beaten in the semi-finals.

The German has beaten a top-10 player 54 times, including four times against a world No. 1 in one year. He also has four wins over each member of the Big Three, becoming one of just three players in 2024 to have beaten Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros. Forever the last…

ZVEREV &
THE GRAND SLAMS

After struggling to confirm his immense Grand Slam potential, Alexander Zverev finally hit his stride in 2020, with his first semi-final appearance at the Australian Open. He went on to reach two major finals, at the US Open in 2020 and the French Open in 2024, both losing in five sets to Dominic Thiem and Carlos Alcaraz respectively.

Its link with
the Mouratoglou Academy

As a good neighbour, Alexander Zverev regularly comes to train at the Mouratoglou Academy, where he has often benefited from the expert eye of the master of the house. A few years ago, Mouratoglou insisted that the German player needed to work on his serve, both first and second ball, if he was to reach a milestone in major tournaments. And he has.

At the Australian Open 2024, when Zverev made his return to the semi-finals of a Grand Slam a year and a half after injuring his ankle, Patrick Mouratoglou had this to say about him on the social network “X”: “If I had to choose one word to define Alexander Zverev, it would be: resilient.

HIS GAME

Alexander Zverev is the absolute prototype, and probably even a precursor, of the modern player: very tall (1.98 m) and at the same time very mobile, two qualities that seemed incompatible in the past. The German has won his spurs thanks to his enormous ability to kill from the baseline, with his strong point being a two-handed backhand of unfailing power and reliability.

A great server, even if his second ball has played tricks on him in the past, Zverev has often been criticised for staying too much in his comfort zone, even if it means falling into a certain passivity, particularly in moments of truth. He has embarked on a major project to improve his return game and become more aggressive, especially on the forehand, so that he can go after the only two Grails he is missing: a Grand Slam and the world No. 1 ranking.

Personal Life
& Interests

In August 2022, Alexander Zverev made public the fact that he had suffered from type 1 diabetes since childhood, a health problem that requires him to regularly monitor his insulin levels when changing sides. He has since become very active in the treatment and prevention of the disease, via his foundation.
