The beginnings of a tennis enthusiast

Born in France in June 1970, Patrick Mouratoglou grew up in a family that valued freedom and excellence. From the age of four, he discovered tennis and found his equilibrium there. By the age of 15, he was dreaming of becoming a professional player, but his parents, who were committed to academic success, refused to support his plans. Their refusal prompted him to turn his frustration into determination, and he decided to pursue his dream in another way: by becoming a tennis coach.

At the age of 26, together with coach Bob Brett, he founded his first Academy in the Paris region, a centre where he could share his innovative vision of tennis.

A unique coaching methodology for a course of excellence

Patrick Mouratoglou’s methodology is based on a personalised coaching approach. He sees each player as a ‘blank sheet of paper’, requiring tailored training to maximise their potential. Patrick observes, listens and communicates with his athletes, meticulously analysing the physiological, psychological and environmental factors that influence their performance. For him, the mind is just as decisive as the body: “The ability to handle pressure and stay focused in decisive moments sets a good player apart from a great champion”.

Mentor to the greatest champions

In 2012, Patrick became coach to Serena Williams, who was facing her first defeat in the first round of a Grand Slam tournament. Together, they formed a “dynamic duo”, and Serena regained the number one ranking in the world in just a few months. Under Patrick’s guidance, she went on to win ten more Grand Slams, reaching an all-time total of 23. Of this collaboration, Serena would say: “He took me from great to historic”. In addition to Serena Williams, Patrick has worked with many other top players, including :

  • Marcos Baghdatis : In 2006, he reached the final of the Australian Open and the semi-finals of Wimbledon.
  • Grigor Dimitrov : In 2012, ranked 100th, he joined the Academy and broke into the Top 50 in just a few months.
  • Holger Rune : Spotted by Patrick at the age of 13, he joined the Academy in 2016. Six years later, he became the youngest winner of the 2022 Paris Masters and reached the Top 10.
  • Naomi Osaka : Since the summer of 2024, Patrick has accompanied Naomi Osaka, the four-time Grand Slam champion, on her return to the top.
